Almost all of the buildings on that site I have looked at could not even be considered as remotely castle-like. You're probably better off looking at the real ones for inspiration. The problem with trying to build a house that looks like a castle is that, the more 'real' you want your castle to look, the less liveable it will be. So, the best advice I could give you is to first decide what it is about castles that you want in your building. If you can't figure that out, spend a lot of time on the web looking for your ideal castle, or elements of it and think about how that could be recreated. One suggestion I would make is that you check out medieval houses, churches and other town buildings as well as later castles to see if you might be able to incorporate elements from these more appropriate buildings, such as stone arches, timber framed walls, complex wooden roof framing, natural materials such as slate and stone, thick walls as well as columns, buttresses and so on. You may be able to get the feel and look you want, particularly internally, without having to resort to trying to recreate a building type unsuitable for habitation. Erik Not to get into the old debate of what is a 'Castle' and what is not, i would like to point out whilst the Dupont site is well done i agree with Erik that the buildings pictured can not even remotely be considered castles. In this forum are so many subjects about building a mansion/home in the Architectural style of a castle that the links to the topics would take up 2 pages. Set the little box on the first page of this forum to "all" and your see what i mean. Since you are not building a real castle i fail to understand where the problem is with getting blueprints for a home the size and shape you are looking to build. Here are a few basic points that other members have ran into difficulties with in building their homes and should not be over looked: There are more points to this discussion, but this is a place to start looking at what is entailed in building a "one of a kind structure" and that one little concept is where the cost is going to be the highest. Castles were built primarily for defence and therefore usefull things such as windows had to be left out or made very small in most of the buildings.
It is not untill after castles became obsolete(late 15th century) as a good means of defence that the emphasis moved from defence to habitation. Castles were either abandoned or rebuilt to allow the owners such comforts as ease of access, windows, large gardens and a view of things other than defensive walls.
It's always best to go an architect with firm ideas about what you want.duncan Gentlemen,
1. Have you researched what building materials you will want to use? This one question can determine what shape the building will take on.
2. What are the construction and zoning codes in the area where you wish to build and will they allow what you have in mind for your home.
3. Have you found an architect and or a builder that will work with you?
4. You may have to do a Environmental impact sturdy if you construction area falls into a zone.
5. Is the builder and his workers insured or will you be footing the bill.
A person that is able to afford a new custom built home possible will be able to build something with the look of a castle and all the modern amenities.
I'm not saying you or any one else can't do this, i'm saying as i have done so many other times, this type of building has different cost ratios and material lists then what is found in most new construction.
If your serous and won't mind the extra headaches your have, nor the cost, or the problems you will encounter, then the only suggestion i can give is dive into the research that is necessary in fulfilling your dreams.

Well it sounds as if you live in a area where the Architects don't have the sligh idea as how to build what your talking about. I've run into the same thing being in a rual area. You give them the idea and they look at you very strange or laugh. The question is can they, don't or can't get what the weights are you are dealing with on such a confined space say for the foundations for towers and such, had to find a lot of info on the sight here or research on older period castles. So as myself we have had to incorporate castle like elements into our plans, true it may not be a true castle but it has a outward apperiance what were looking for.
As for all the building codes were very lucky no red tape realy to worry about just a building perment, not knowing where you are the codes are really a pain in the back side. All I can say is research research and more for a architect or the ones here will not incorporate elements or changes without more cost added to you.
