bent onewhat do you guys think about starting an all about weapons forum?
PaulHello again my friend, I'm all for a new forum concerning medieval weapons but it could be a huge subject.
But yes I'm all in favor.

Paul.

bent oneHey paul! sorry I haven't been around as much lately.

yes, I understand that weapons would be a big subject but I bet it would be a cool one. I know that I've had several things about weapons that are related to the medieval era and castles but I didn't have a place to specifically write about them. most of the time I usually put it in the general discussion. I think there's a ton of great stuff out there on weaponry and I've seen a lot of stuff that others have brought up concerning weapons. If you could do it I think it would be awesome! If you'd do it I'd try to help out with it somehow. I'm a bit of a weapons freak myself so I could help watch it for you and answer stuff or just simply talk about arms.

bent oneafter thinking about a new forum on weapons I think that we might make it broader if we do it. instead of being just on weapons it could cover armor as well. So it could be Arms and Armor.
that would leave the other forums to be specifically castle based
MariaMy only objection would be connected with violece, but, hey, I'm a girl...
Steve-O-GerstWell, if you've got a problem with violence, the name of the forum would be a big clue to steer clear.

I think this is an enormously good idea. The large size of the topic, and the fact that many people are fascinated with violence would probably ensure a lively discussion.

bent oneIt would be big. but it doesn't have to be totally devoted to violence there's a lot of really cool history behind weaponry. Let's face it war has without doubt shaped human history. A new tactic, a better weapon. these things influenced the countless lives that have passed from cradle to grave on this earth for untold millenia.

A weapon tells a lot about the distinct people who used it. I mean some weapons have become iconic symbols: the longbow, the double bladed bound axe of justice, the scepter that ceremonial mace. there's a ton of ground to cover.

So no it doesn't have to be totally about war. but I'm not going to say that there won't be violence mentioned because come on it'd be about weapons. : )

MariaI remember reading in a novel somewhere... weapons aren't for using, they are for owning and showing, so that no one ever dreams of attacking you...
bent oneSort of reminds me of our modern day with nuclear devices nobody uses them but they sure threaten with them.
bent oneback to the arms and armor forum. do you think that we should put it in hte open forum area or in the COTW related? I think that it would be better to put it in the open forum area because weapons may be somewhat related to castles but they can kind of stand alone.
Steve-O-GerstOpen forum?
bent oneyeah, like down at the bottom. with the solar and all that. It's really up to others where to put it but I'm just thinking about where it might go if they did, like the most appropriate place for such a forum.
Steve-O-GerstI dunno. There's not a lot going on that far down the page...

I'd put it in the top one, or maybe make it's own category, if you think it'd need to split up a little more.

You could maybe make a second category to go with it... like "Wars" to cover when and where the fighting took place. That's a little more history buff style than I've really seen around here myself though.

bent onePutting in a timeline doesn't sound like a bad idea.

but we don't need to really split it into sub- categories. War and warfare are closely related to arms and armor. you could more or less put in anything in there that had relattionships with combat.

Or perhaps you could just have a war forum and weapons and armor could be included in a similar manner. Still thinking about that part.

I don't think we need to really make a seperate category for this it ought to fit nicely in with one of the available forums. my question is which one would be the most appropriate.
