Laura D Hello, My name is Laura Dysarczyk. I am 45 years old and trying to find information or direction in finding out about my grandfathers property in Italy. His name is Joseph Fedele and lived in Lecce,Italy. It is my understanding he held the title of 'Duke'. I know very little about this, but hope someone can guide me in this search. I believe his home was lost and the government turned it into a school. HELP!
Peter Lecce, is probably one of the most interesting towns in Puglia, south Italy. And is perhaps noted for its Baroque buildings.
The castle, as it exists today, was built in the reign of Charles V (1539-48).
A big problem with Italian family trees, is that there are many, many Dukes, Counts etc.
It depends how popular a family was. And if it was Italian (better), French, Spanish, or even German.

Laura D The home that my mother was raised in was what she refered to as a "palace". Her father lost the home somehow to the government...in turned used it for a school. This was 50 years ago and I wonder what has happened to it since. A gentleman who works with my son said he has seen the 'Fedele Castle' when he lived in Italy about 15 years ago. We never told him it was a castle! I found that amazing and wonder if there is any connection to grandfathers estate. Such vague details, I know but it is the little I have! Thank you for looking into the is. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
