suzyieq I am trying to find a castle in italy that goes back to my family, I know it is now a park, and i think it sounds like Chelea, or castle park? Anyone out there know italian castles?
Peter Not a lot to go on there.
As there are upteen thousand castles in Italy, many now surrounded by parks or parkland, it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Is there any more information at all?
North ... South, maybe even Sicily or one of the other islands.
I can only have a look in the limited sources I have.

Peter Just had a wee look, and I would say it depends on how the word you give is pronounced;
For instance; the word for cherry in Italian is 'ciliegia', but is pronounced 'cheelyeja'.
So there are about ten places spelt 'Celle', and another 3/4 that start with that, ie;
Celle di Montana.
There are also about six spelt 'Cella'.
There is a Celle in Piemonte with the Castello di Riviera. But there is also a castle at 'Ciglie', also in Piemonte.
So you can see where the difficulty lies.
All these places are pronounced very much alike. But local dialect could throw up a dozen ways in which they would be pronounced.
All based around your word sounding like 'Chelea'.
So that is why further clues may help in tracking it down.

suzyieq I know I am vague, I have done some research myself. How do you pronounce Cennia? I am wodering if that may be the one. It goes way back 1300's perhaps. I know that there is a family crest, but I no longer have access to it. There is nothing behind the name, Castle ?. I'm sorry. I have been trying to get the info from my Aunt.
Peter I don't know of a place spelt 'Cennia', though there are two spelt 'Cenina' and 'Cennina'. Both of these are in Tuscany, not too far from each other east of Sienna.
They don't seem big enough to have castles, but in Italy you never know!
It may even be the case that the castle has a different name to the place that it is in.

suzyieq I do think that is the one, although it really depends on how you pronounce it. How ever, I am still trying to get in touch with my Aunt on the crest thing. I'll post more when I get it. Thanks guys
