That's all I can find about it. Presumably it started out as an Elizabethan mansion and was modernised when gothic architecture became fashionable.
Keep on checking back!
Linda I am writing in the hopes that someone will have the history of Leasowe Castle. It is near Birkenhead Cheshire England. I am researching my family history (surname Pritchard) from Cheshire. It appears that Leasowe Castle is connected in some way to my family. I would be thrilled to know more about the castle.
Geoff Leasowe Castle is 2 miles west of Wallasey, Cheshire. It was built for the Earl of Derby in 1593. A castellated front was added in 1818. emjayp Built in 1593 by Ferdinando 5th Earl of Derby. The tower was enlarged between 1600 and 1642. The castle became known as "Mockbeggar Hall" because of the financial situation of the family and the castle fell into disrepair. Used as a farmhouse until 1770 . Bought in1802 and refurbished and named Leasowe Castle.[ previously New Hall until 1802] Rebult twice since then.
Andrew Muller Leasowe is nowadays a hotel and restaurant, with a little 'bric-a-brac' store attached. It is kept in excellent condition and is a very attractive building. I may have some more extensive history of it knocking around somewhere, I'll try and dig it out. Linda Thank you for the information. If you should find out anymore I would be happy to hear it. This is a wonderful site Thanks to each of you. Linda Bowman
