lynn steffen Am looking for this castle that supposedly exists. Does it?
Philip Davis I can't find Danforth or Danford in my database of medieval castles (Now in excess of 3000 entries for England and Wales). Framingham appears to be a couple of small villages outside Norwich, neither of which have a medieval castle of any name. Framlingham in Suffolk has an important, well preserved castle, but I have never come across Danford or Danforth in context with this castles (See http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~mwcook/framlingham%20castle.html for more on Framlingham).
This leaves the possibility that you are looking for a post medieval house with the name castle attached to it. I can only suggest that you post a request for information on the uk.local newsgroup for Norfolk (if that is where your Framingham is actually located.)

Philip Davis A little extra study does show me that the Danforth's were a Framlingham family. However they appear to have no specific connection to Framlingham castle. At the time that certain members of the family went to the american colonies (where they apparently made good) the castle was in Royal hands and being used as a prisoner for recusant priest. Before Henry VIII ceased it had been in the hands of the Howards, Dukes of Norfolk. (as it was briefly again after 1613 until they sold it in 1635). Before the Howards the castle was held by the Mowbrays, varous relatives of the Royal family and infamous Bigod's. It was built by Hugh Bigod sometime about 1140. The current remains are from Roger Bigod II 1189 rebuilding of the castle, with the wall towers summounted by brick tudor chimneys, some of which are dummies. The lack of a keep at Framlingham makes it almost unique amoungst 12th century castles.
I have no knowledge of any later houses built by the Danforth's, but I can not imagine that they would call a house, however grand, Danforth castle if it was in Framlingham, since this would only produce confussion, but check out the uk.local suffolk newsgroup.
