bobcmdI am looking for Information on Castle Caldwell. The only info I have been able to get is Castle Caldwell, Fermanagh, Towerhouse type. I am a Caldwell and would be interested in any information. My grandfather was an orphan and therefore his records are sealed, which makes my reasearch into my geneology very dificult. Thanks for any assistance. Robert Caldwell

Much of the present heavily overgrown ruin dates from the 1790's but the west front has a pair of two storey 17th c flankers bristling with gunports. The house was originally called Rossbeg and was built by Sir Francis Blennerhasset in 1612. It was re-named after being sold in 1671 to Sir James Caldwell, an Enniskillen Merchant created a baronet in 1683. In the early 19thc it passed by marriage to the Bloomfields, who were in residence until a fire c1905.

Caldwell is a Scottish surname, the family originating in North Ayrshire/Renfrewshire. If you would like data on the name origins, or properties held in Scotland, feel free to contact me or post again here.
