DeliaI am looking for information on a castle named Gross Stein. I lived there for a short time during the war and believe it is not part of Germany anymore. Anyone have any type of information? It would be greatly appreciated...thanx
Erik SchmidtHi Delia,
I am having difficulty finding any web sites which refer to the castle. It seems to be located in/near Herzogtum Oppeln, Schlesien(which says nothing to me, but seems to be either in Germany or Poland)
The castle has ties to the Odrowaz family and the Grafs of Strachwitz.
That's all I could find, sorry.

Erik

MarkoAfter a search I found the following info after briefly viewing some of the sites below (3 sites are in German and 2 in Latin, so..).
Erik was partly right; Gross Stein (Kamien Slaski in Polish) is indeed a village falling under the municipality of Oppeln in the 'Schlesien'-region (don't know what the English name is) in Poland. The region seems to have been part of Germany in the past and is inhabited by a large German minority. The castle was destroyed in the years following WW II but rebuilding started in 1990 and was finished in 1994. The castle incorporates a sanctuary dedicated to a saint called Hyazinth (hence the 2 Latin sites). The land around the castle is a nature reserve. The castle itself is used as a hotel.
All sites below have one or more pictures of the castle. http://www.gogolin.kalcyt.pl/kams_on.htm http://www.ostpreussenreisen.de/oberschlesien2.htm http://www-ifg.uni.opole.pl/konferenzen.html http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Inga_Pessarra_Grimm/Seminaria/Silesia1/si lesia2.htm http://members.surfeu.de/ipg/Seminaria/Invitatio%20Opoliensis%20III/silesia2.htm

DeliaWhat can I say....Erik and Marko...THANK YOU SO MUCH...all these years I have looked and asked and never found anything. Fate had me look up castles and here I am.
The black and white photos on the sites that you gave me was exactly how I remembered it. The picture of dad, my sister and I sitting at the bottom of the steps was all I had left and the steps are recognizable. Thank You again Marko for the websites....Delia
