Unknown postcard, would welcome any idea's as to site. All though British made card, might it be French ?
Philip DavisQuite a puzzle. I wonder if Richmond had a ditch which has been filled in. Certainly the modern approach to the gate has no ditch. I can't find any photo's of the gate of Richmond from the front but it fits the general discription but with no identifed picture to compair with it's not possible to be sure. I feel it's unlikely but it is the only English castle I can think of.

Visit Castellarium Philippis

A KnightLooks to me very much like the gate to the upper bailey at Chepstow Castle taken from the South-West Tower. Similar view on p.43 of 1991 edition of guidebook - the bridge is now wooden.

Andy Knight

Philip DavisI thought I'd seen the view. Andy is clearly quite right. Putlog holes match exactly.
PeterThank you gentlemen.
Must be 20+ years since I visited that gate.
Will have to dig my old pic's out for a recap.
Are you ready for the next one ?
