i have a question: does any one know where i can find something on the history (or pictures) of the château de Randan in the Puy-de-dôme. i already found some old postcards on the net. but i like to know is the castle still intact, what is the history and how old is the building. on the pictures it looks like a 19century castle, but my 'dictionaire des chateaux et des fortifications du moyen age en france' names it, but only shortly it says 'motte aux pioliers' and nothing more, not of which age or such things. so i am curious when is it build and what happened with the building in al those years between then and now.

PeterHi ipflo,
none of my French sources even mention it !
so I think you may be struggling to get much serious information on it.
I'll keep looking, but don't get your hopes to high.
Peter EsserHi ipflo, there are two interesting links for you. The first site is a short history of Randan in the Puy de Dôme.
http://www.quid.fr/detail.php?com_id=r_9876

quote:

They mention a castle in the place of an old monastery, and trace the "career" of its owners: Seigneurie (Lords?), Duchè, (Duke). The castle burnt down in 1926, but seemingly, it was rebuilt. The important point is the fact that the castle had once before restored under Adélaïde of Orleans, sister of the king Louis Philipe. So it must be indentical with Maulmont Castle (Château de Maulmont / Randan) which nowadays is a hotel.

In the hotel cronicles mention that in 1829 the castle became property of Adélaïde, was restored to a castle for the royal hunt (Rendez-vous de Chasse)…

quote:

Could be worth a vacation trip to France?

So I hope this was helpful to you.
