O'LearyWould anyone be able to tell me if there is such a castle and if so, where and how would I be able to get pictures and info on it? Any information is most appreciated.
GordonMilford? Which Country?
O'LearyBelieve the castle is suppose to be in Scotland.
It could also be in Ireland or England. Sorry about the location. The two most reliable sources were for Scotland. This information is for family history.
GordonI've found no evidence in any of my main gazeteers for these countries of a castle of that name. However the name appears twice in the Country House index, as follows.

Milford HOLLYMOUNT ire may
Milford House BORRISOKANE ire tip
ie both are in Ireland, one in Tipperary and one in Mayo.
The full entry for the first is

HOLLYMOUNT may Milford
Miller 1720+
M. Bence-Jones, A Guide to Irish Country Houses, London, 1988.

and for the second
BORRISOKANE tip Milford House
Murphy 1780+
M. Bence-Jones, A Guide to Irish Country Houses, London, 1988.
each entry provides location, source of reference and date of building with original owners name.

castleukHi
Cartcart King says that Milford and Mitford are the same castle. Mitford is in Northumberland, to the west of Morpeth, strong site, (full of nettles, as all the best sites are) motte with Norman shell keep, 2 baileys with stone curtain. There must be pictures on the net if not i have some i could post.
Chris www.castleuk.net
for castle location.
AJRIf indeed Milford and Mitford are one and the same, then you can find two pictures of Mitford Castle, Northumberland, in the Photo Archive, which is listed towards the bottom of this page. They were submitted by ... AJR.
O'LearyThank you folks ever so much. I will certainly recommend this site to others.
