Erik [This message has been edited by DEN (edited 04-16-2002).] [This message has been edited by Gordon (edited 04-18-2002).]dave g I have been looking in vain for a picture of a castle which is built on the summit of a mountain .I think it is in Europe and maybe France. Can anyone help with a name or a photo please.
Regards,Erik Schmidt Firstly, are you sure it is on a mountain and not a hill?
It was very common to build castles on hilltops and the like.
Can you supply us with any more information about the castle you are looking for?DEN If the castle you want is in France it may be Haut Koenigsburg in Alsace, or Queribus, Puylaurens, Peyrepertuse or Montsegur in the Languedoc Roussillon region. These are all well known castles on impressive summits. Another possibility is Polignac (near Le Puy)which is on a large basalt outcrop which stands 100m or so above the surrounding plain. Merlin There are hundreds of such castles also in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, the Czech Republic etc. What did it look like? Was it medieval or later? Still in full shape or ruined? Was it on a rocky hilltop or standing between trees? It's impossible to find your castle with no more information, sorry. Gordon I wonder if we are actually looking for that big mountain top mansion that features so much in our new forum. Check out the links for Neuschwanstein in Mansions and Manor Houses, but first go here to see if my hunch is right. http://images.google.com/images?q=neuschwanstein&svnum=10&hl=de&start=0&sa=N Peter Esser With a big grin, Gordon: I wanted to avoid it …
