yes, they probably mean the Marksburg, a medieval castle, now owned by the Deutsche Burgenvereinigung (German Castle society). you can find info about this castle on www.marksburg.de ipfloJoan Anyone know if the Markus castle in Germany somewhere close to the Rhein River has another name? What village is it close to? Any other information would be appreciated. Thanks ipflo hi, Maria it was also called Braubach Castle and this is a part of what I found:
"The Marksburg castle above Braubach is one of the Rhine's main tourist attractions and was not destroyed ... until 1945, when it was a target for American soldiers. It is now the best maintained castle on the Rhine and the seat of the "Deutscher Burgenverband" (German Castle Association).
The Marksburg gives you a greater insight into the life of castle inhabitants of by-gone days than any other castle on the Rhine. A special attraction at the Marksburg is its annuary "medieval market" in May. The name Marksburg (Markus castle) results of the evangelist St. Markus, to whom the chapel of the castle was dedicated."
