Maria hi, i'm in ireland for three months - on Erasmus exchange. I'm in Dublin, but I will have a two weeks holiday in March and would like to go around the country. Could you suggest some places - castles and so on?
thanks, MariaEdward Hi Maria,
Hope you are settling in, and not drinking too much of the black stuff.
Will let you know a batch of castles near to Dublin, as there are many thousands of sites all over Eire/Ireland. Nearly all the main towns have a castle, but many are out in the countryside, and not easy to reach.
EdwardMaria Hi!
naaa, I'm not drinqu... drinky... draki... drinking anything and am as sober as, hips, ever!
I'm settling in just fine - god is this place expensive... and i'm having a great time at school and after school and so on..
see ya,
MariaEdward Er, Yes!
We have been to a couple of Castle Studies Conferences in Eire, and certainly found it heavy on the pocket. One to the west of Dublin at Maynooth, where there are castle remains.
You can of course (if not already done so?) have a wander to Dublin Castle, very much altered since 1204 when built on the orders of King John.
Just on the outskirts of Dublin, but still within easy reach, is Phoenix Park. At the far end is 'Ashdown Castle', now renovated. Also the little known "Magazine Fort'. Which is only just off the main road.
In all honesty, you would be better off popping in the library to hunt out a book on those sites.
They really are many and varied.
Let us know how you go on?
Cheers Edward
