homefires86Does anyone know where to find pictures of the interior of castles. I am interested in grand stair ways and bedrooms. I can remember what it looks like, but do not remember the name
Erik SchmidtGrand stairways? Sounds to me like a palace, not a castle, so it unlikely we can help.
Sorry

Erik

homefires86What I meant was stairways leading to the upper floors. Not the smaller ones.
GordonThere are two pics of Turnpike stair in the Photo Archive in the Miscellaneous category.
Erik SchmidtDid you check out the pics?
Where they what you were thinking of?
Stairs in castles were small due to the lack of space and the unwillingness to compromise the strength of a structure by trying to accommodate a large staircase.
In many smaller keeps and typically in towers, access to the upper levels was often simply by a ladder.

Erik

MerlinMany stairs, esp. to make access to the upper floors of towers more comfortable, were added in the later middle ages and afterwards...
