Maria Hi,
I'm trying to write a story. I need some nobiliary titles (like earl, count, baron...) or functions in the castle. I know they are different from country to country and period to period, so the language isn't that important, only please explain what the function was exactly.

you will have to let me check that one out first. Like the water one, it isn't that simple. Where as titles were important. They could be bought even in those far off days. Just trying to bring too mind which English King did that to raise money.

On the two following pages you can find some info about how the english peerage works. I hope this is helpful. The titles are in most countries the same, but in some countries prince is equal to duke while in others duke is more important than prince, like the UK (with one exception the prince of Wales, but that is caused by the fact that it is a sort 'sovereign' prince this title, unlike the other (royal) princes)

Thanks a lot! Those sites were really usefull.
I have also found romanian titles, but those are from the old times, before we had kings, just some smaller rullers... medieval ings, you might say.
So:
Domn(King)
Doamna(Queen)
Domnitza(Princess)
Cucon domnesc(Prince)
Ban al Craiovei(Duke of Craiova, highest rank in Romanian Country)
Portar al Sucevei(Duke of Suceava, only it can be translated as Gatekeeper of Suceava, highest rank in Moldavia)
I'll post the rest of them tomorrow.

Maria I'm back with the rest of romanian titles:
Logofat - this one was he chief of... well the department which emited written stuff, like acts of giving land to someone, laws etc.
Vornic - chisef of administration
Vistiernic - in charge of the money vaults
Spatar - this one carried the sword, and was chief of the army
Paharnic - mainly means the guy who caries the emperor's glss of wine, but he was in change of the wine cellars.
Did other countries have such things?
