Dorothy Davies can anyone tell me when this started? Maria This is just my opinion, I'm not sure how true this is...
So... I suppose it started out as a "show of skill", and latter became an official way of setting disputes. Medieval people gave a lot of importance to the game, as a set of rules which must be obeied for the sake of honour. There is an autor, Huitzinga i think, but I'm not sure, who speaks about the tradition of games...
There is another possibility... perhaps it started as a way of socializing... you know, let's meet the noble neighbours, let's show toghem how rich and fit we are...
I hope it helps.Dorothy Davies sounds good to me, many thanks!
