------------------amber03 I am going to build a big model castle for my final school project- one that I design myself, not just a copy of an existing one. Anyway, I want it to be as accurate and realistic as possible, but I'm having trouble finding out a couple of things. I found out the keep was usually 40 to 50 feet high, but it didn't say how many floors it would have. Anyone know? Also, in the circular towers usually on the corner of the keep, were there rooms in there or were those just stairways? If anyone knows where I can find floor plans that show which room goes where in a typical castle, I would greatly appreciate it. Most of the floorplans I look at don't seem to show this. Oops! I forgot to mention: I want to build a castle typical of the 14th century with two walls, two baileys, circular towers, etc. By the way, I'm 17 years old, but I've built two castles before (one was Alcazar), though they weren't detailed or very realistic. Sorry this post is kind of long, but I'd REALLY appreciate some help! TNT (til next time) Gordon Castle design varied enormously, not just from one country to another, but from castle to castle. When we discuss specifics, we have to discuss a particular castle, or generally we give specific examples to make a point. You are deigning your own castle, and so you have to make up your own dimensions. Best thing to do is look at a variety of keep designs, and pick out the features you want. My web site is linked below, with a variety of Scottish castle plans. Sorry the scale isn't too clear in most, but they are in feet/five feet/ten feet. Bothwell is a good one for you.
