Erik Schmidt I can't think of any inherent weaknesses in concentric castles.
I don't know what you mean by ring works castles.
Gordon The question is flawed because each individual castle was on a different site each with it's own features, and weaknesses. Also the different styles of castle are from different eras, and so faced different tactics and weapons. A ringwork castle is similar to a motte and bailey, but without the motte, i.e. it it a ditch with pallisade with the buildings within. They more commonly occured on hilltops where the hill itself provided the height required.
The weaknesses of each occurd as new weapons or tactics or technology surpassed the ability of the style. Fire destroyed wooden buildings, and so ringworks and mottes were replaced in stone. Concentric castles were one stage in the development of castles which were replaced by other styles, partly because of the need for improved accomodation, and partly because of cost, building all those walls was an expensive business.
