------------------ ------------------ I'm also trying to build a drawbridge and any ideas on plans and how to's would be greatly appreciated. Drawbridge is going to be used in a wooden play tree fort that I have built. [This message has been edited by kbines (edited 02-24-2006).] Levan Jane DickeyBarry Beverage Does anyone know of drawings of plans for the system of raising and lowering a castle drawbridge? We want to construct a small but usable one for our medieval project, and I would like the mechanism to be somewhat historical.

Not the best of images...hope it helpsPaul I'm really struggling with this one, I've scoured the web and can find very little.
It could possibly be a subject that has been somewhat neglected and deserves some more research.
Paul.Peter Hi,
sure I have some good ones in an Italian castle journal. Just give me a day or so to find it. Also published a lengthy article on Caerphilly castle some time back. Where I'm sure the writer covered the topic at that castle.
Just trying to think of the Italian name .. Pontlevato, or something like that.
PeterBarry Beverage Appreciate it!!!
Barrykbines Hi, Levan "Castles: Their Construction and History" by Sydney Toy has some excellent diagrams of drawbridges. This book might be old, but it's a classic and hard to be beaten for this type of thing. jane dickey David Macaulay"s book "Castle" Has a good picture and discription of how a weighted drawbridge works. There is enough information so that you could put one together.
