akilli hello my name is abel and i am 14 and in the 8th grade we have been given a project on medieval castles and to create a brochure my question is who introduced the first european style castles into britain? Paul Hi,although there were a small number of castles in Britain before the Norman conquest of 1066, the Normans or the Norman/French must be given the credit for the introduction of castles in Britain. Malc_Chr Edward the Confessor invited some Normans to come and help hom defend the welsh border. One of these knights, Richard Fitzcrob, built a fortress known as Richard's castle, near Ludlow. This was of a type new to England. There were a few private fortresses before that, as Paul said.
