I want to put on a Medieval Hand Puppet show at our next Renaissance Faire next year. I want to "wear" the castle not to be seen. I would like for the castle to be the stage with just the "princess, prince, knight" appearing on the castle stage. Does anyone have an idea for something sturdy I can build and wear? I can invision it but I could use some help. I took some packing foam and covered it with torn paper to look like stone. Any ideas??? Thanks, Sharon

What an excellent idea Sharon!

I can see it work well too. The problem I see with foam is it's lack of strength. I would use cardboard, as it's light but still quite tough. You could always glue the foam onto the cardboard.

To be unseen you could have a tower(keep) at the back of the stage for your head, with a few windows for vision. Surround yourself with a wall(hips to chest height) and have a couple of towers, in the front corners at least, to frame the 'stage'. Your stage would simply be the top of the front wall between the towers.
The gap between you(the keep) and the front wall would allow your hands room to move the puppets around. You could add a floor(inner courtyard) of cardboard between the keep and the gap at the stage(front wall) if there is more room than needed between the keep and front wall.

The base of the keep would rest on your shoulders and the front wall may need to be supported by a couple of sticks going down to a belt around your waist. The back wall would be attached to the keep.

The puppets(if they rae the type I am thinking of) would ofcourse not be to scale with the castle, otherwise you would need to carry a massive weigth on your shoulders.

I hope that has given you some inspiration.
A photo when you're done would be great.

Erik
