hi

Does some know where you can find (more)information over lost Studley Royal House, expecially pictures.

What I know about Studley Royal is as follows: In 1716, the first Studley Royal House burned to the ground. The house was rebuilt in-between 1748 and 1752, then remodelled between 1758 and 1762. Unbelievably, this later house also burned down in 1946, destroying much of the information about it. We know that the house was used as a girls' school during the second world war, and before the fire, at Easter in 1946, the girls had gone and everything was packed for a move.
All that now remains of the house, is the magnificent stable block which has been converted into a private home.

The house was lived in by the Aislabie family

The park is now owned by the National Trust, and very famous because it contains the ruins of Fountains Abbey.

Thx in advance

regards

Hi Ipflo,
been pretty busy these last few weeks, so not really seen the site.
Last weekend we went down to the bookshop town of Hay on Wye again.
Spotted one book out of my price range .. Vanished Houses of England.
Re; your question, have visited Fountains, so will see if I have any information for you.
