My husband and I are currently in the planning stages of our next home/castle. Thus far we have decided on split-face concrete block/brick construction. The castle plans are thus far a two full story 28'x32'with four square 10'turrets. I can forward a basic line drawing floor plan to anyone if it will help to assist me. Turrets are to have a pyramida roof, however, due to the physics of attempting a conical roof over a square structure. I am perplexed as to the style of roof over the main area of the house. Does anyone on this list have photos of their own castles in progress which would aid our designs? Ideas of features we should add? We are not aiming for historically accurate castle but the correct look is important. If all works well, we plan to build a separate great hall to rent for weddings, Grad photos and other functions. I welcome all thoughts on this subject.

Castle Levan was built in the 14th century.

Hello Mrs_gumby
Glad to see another building there dream, But the roof your thinking of is called a hip roof there not all that hard to build. You can get prefab rafters built that are a lot better to work with and faster. We are in the building stage now and the split face block that work really good. http://www.geocities.com/rickmancastle/
