Information on Reading castle can be found at http://freespace.virgin.net/david.ford2/castles.html although this actual just consists of the following paragraph. (The author of the site may have more information.)

Reading Castle
At the time of the Civil War between Henry I's daughter, the Empress Maud and her cousin, King Stephen, Reading Abbey was still being built. The latter apparently constructed a motte and bailey castle in its grounds, possibly to harass Wallingford, though this was a little distant. It was destroyed by the Empress' son (later Henry II) in 1153. The remains of the motte can still be seen in the Forbury Gardens (which take their name from the Castle: the Fore-Borough). Castle Hill and Street in Reading probably take their names from the ancient ruin of a Roman Villa in the area.

I can't find a reference to Addington castle in my fairly extensive data base. This may be because;
1. I haven't listed it yet. Building the database is an ongoing project. I currently have 1580 english castle sites on list but am adding to this (I found reference to a further 34 castles yesterday)
2. It's not a medieval castle. Whilst some of the sites I have listed are not truely castles they are either medieval or reputedly medieval. Many grand homes of later periods added the name castle to increase their status. I don't list these.
3. You have spelt the name in a way I don't have listed, or have mis read the spelling. I am aware of an Allington castle. Is this what you are looking for?

By the way, please don't use block capitals. This is considered to be the same as shouting and it makes your posting more difficult to read.

If the name is mis-spelt, there is also a motte and bailey at Abington, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. If you have any data about the site it may help us to identify it.
