Have searched the web and come up with only a few bad pictures. Do know it's in ruins. Any info is greatly appreciated. It's a very impressive ruin in the northern Elsass/Alsace, maybe you should check some travel-guides for literature. Merlin Senior Member posted 03-16-2000 08:18 AM             Castle Fleckenstein: located between Schoenau and Lembach (France) built by Gottfried and Gutta von Fleckenstein, which were related with the dynasty of the Hohenstaufen. the name appears for the first time in 1129. in 1276, king Rudolf von Habsburg besieged the castle without success, same as the army of Strasbourg in 1315. after that, Fleckenstein was considered to be impregnable for a very long time, until it finaly was destroyed by general Montclar in 1680. Heinrich Jakob von Fleckenstein, beeing the last of the family, died in 1720. the castle is built on solid rock, it's walls made of red sandstone. looking like a gigantic ship, the main complex reached five storeys up and on top of that stood the Palas. all that was surrounded by a very deep ditch.
