Salter advises that this site is at OS Map Reference NX 598554, and that it can be found north-west of the hotel. Apparently only one low wall of a 16th century tower survives. Has anyone got a picture of this site, which is in Dumfries and Galloway. Thanks. |

I'm afraid not, but I can tell you that there is a motte on site, and that the later tower house stood on what may have been a marshy site with a series of 'water defenses' fed by the nearby river. The tower (Cally or Kelly) was a property of the Lennox and Murray families, and was replaced by the country house , now a hotel, in 1763. It was designed by Robert Mylne.------------------ Demeure par la verite Visit my web-site at www.castlesontheweb.com/members/wurdsmiff/castles.htm Gordon. |

Gordon, thank you for your response. I've e-mailed the hotel in the hope that someone there might be able to photograph the ruins for me. I await their response. |

Good luck, I'm only infrequently in Galloway these days, and usually too busy catching fish when I'm there or I'd pay a visit. ------------------ Demeure par la verite Visit my web-site at www.castlesontheweb.com/members/wurdsmiff/castles.htm Gordon.
