Could anyone provide some information on the above-mentioned castle. The map "Castles of Scotland - A Collins Map" published in 1974 gives a vague siting for the castle. Salter's "Castles of South-West Scotland" lists it as one of the castles either destroyed or rebuilt almost out of existence. My own investigations have placed the site just south of the A75 at East Raffles, about one mile north-west of Carrutherstown. However, I couldn't locate the actual site. Any help would be useful on its site and history. Thanks. AJR |

Martin Coventry's forthcoming and much delayed 3rd ed of Castles of Scotland gives slightly more detail, but not much I'm afraid. NY 086721 16th c tower house of 3 storeys , ruinous but well preserved at end of 18th c, gone 50 years later. Square plan. Property of Carruthers family. ------------------ Demeure par la verite Visit my web-site at www.castlesontheweb.com/members/wurdsmiff/castles.htm Gordon. | |
