We recently visited Portchester Castle in Portsmouth, Sussex. We took several pictures with a digital camera. In about 10 of the 15 photos, strange lights and images appeared. I am trying to find out more history on this castle. They are unique in that there are no other such images that appear in any of the other pictures. We understand that it had been an old Roman fort as well? Can anyone help?

Can't explain your strange lights, but here's a little history.
Yes the castle is built within a well preserved Roman fort. The main tower was originally of two storeys, and is dated to about 1120 later being added to by the addition of further storeys at a later date. In the opposite corner of the fort site, an Augustinian priory was built in 1133, and there are remains of the chapel. Henry 2 appropriated the castle and remained royal property. It was used as a garrison and embarkation point for 14th century English armies heading for war with France. http://members.nbci.com/AndrewMuller/Castles.html

Porchester and Portmouth are in the County of Hampshire, not Sussex. That may explain your funny lights!

All times are PT (US)
