I was informed that you may have some information on Oldwoodhouselee Castle. I have lived on Oldwoodhouselee Farm for more than 50 years and have always been intrigued by the castle, I wonder if you can help????

James Hamilton of Bothwellhaugh shot Regent Moray in 1570 in retribution for the eviction of his wife from her house here. The estate was then given to Sir John Ballenden. On a rock 45m above the North Esk are ruins of a 16m long and 6.6m wide main block divided at ground level into three cellars. A wing starts at a higher level because of the rise in the ground. In the late 17th century Sir William Purvis took material from this building (later known as Old Woodhouselee) to repair the old tower of Fulford, which was later extended and became known as Woodhouselee. This latter mansion was demolished in 1965 except for a later stable court.

From “The Castles of Lothian & the Borders” by Mike Salter. (See The Book Nook for more details).
