Hello.
As part of my work I am currently conducting a research project to establish the history and distribution of Norman castles in my home county of Lancashire. If anyone has visited any of these locations (which are to be found in the greatest concentrations in the Lune valley of northern Lancashire), or if anyone has any information, reviews, or ideas, about any of the medieval castle sites that have been identified across northern Lancashire, then I would be extremely interested to hear and discuss them. Hi, everyone.
Further to my previous post requesting general information about the castles of Lancashire, I would now be interested to hear from anyone with any knowledge of Penwortham Castle Hill, near Preston. It is my intention to make a comprehensive study of each of the Norman castles in Lancashire, and while there are many sites that I have already visited, there still remains a significant number of castles in this area, that I have yet to view. Therefore, it is my intention to begin my research at Penwortham, the closest castle site to my own home. Though I have found some existing research about this Norman motte, I would still be extremely grateful to hear from anyone who has any relevant or interesting information about this site. I am particularly interested in understanding how Penwortham was described in the Doomsday survey of 1086, as well as any other information that relates directly to the castle's history. Thanks.
