While finding my family tree I ran into the name of a castle. Can anyone tell me if it is still around and where it might be. Thanks Kim

Phew Kim,
It could be anywhere in the world.
No chance of narrowing it down ?

Don't know why ... but I thought 'Welsh'.
So .. Cilsant, in St. Clears, castle of son of Bleddri ap Cedifor.
No real mentions after that, though not checked. But sounds like a motte & bailey site to me.
But that gives you a Welsh connection anyway.
Check it out.

You may be better off looking under St.Clear's for information.
As to being born in the castle ..hm!
I say that because it went out of fashion at least 600 years ago, maybe before then.
It is just an overgrown site, with evidence of some stonework, though it has never been excavated. And is only regarded in Wales as a very minor site.
Good luck anyway.

Philip Davis tells us that the site today is indeed just an overgrown site. http://homepage.mac.com/philipdavis/Welshsites/214.html
I know that the Phillips family were closely linked to Picton castle which was built on the site of a much older motte and bailey castle.
Other than that I have drawn a blank.

Paul.
