What were the rules for a trial-by-combat?
How would someone too young for knighthood have been rewarded for e.g. bravery?

If anyone could help I would be so grateful...

I understand from the medieval author I am working with at the momoment that there was no age limit on being rewarded for bravery,
Richard III was created a Knight of the Bath, then Duke of Gloucester, at the age of 9.
