Hi. I'm new here. I have a question to ask for book I'm trying to write. What do the lords and ladys of the castle do? Every time I try to find out all ever get is stuff on chivalry, and I know enough about that already. If anybody could answer it would be greatly appriciated. |

Well, Levan answered part of this in the my illuminated manuscripts topic (you can read it if you look over the posts).
It's a bit dissapointing, but they did just normal things, like wake up, make breakfast, sew a little (if lady), teach children stuff, see tot the horses, check if peasants have payed taxes, perhaps a little hunting for fun... And if the nobleman was rich enough and had servants, than he had time to become involved with politics...For example in the Renaissance, in Italy, they spent time to meet and plot. Also, the ladies organised some sort of... well, they invited people and discussed the meaning of life, how should the perfect man of the century look like, behave like, what perfect love is...This is how Baldasare Castiglione wrote his Il Curteggiano.

Often, while the man was out doing his "Chivalric stuff," the lady would do a lot of things relating to managing the castle. Quite the businesslike ladies, some of them. Not at all what you normally hear about.When the lord needed to pay off the blacksmith, the missus might handle the purse strings for him. | |
