Our ancestor, Baroness Isabelle O'Connor said she was from royalty. In 1901 my great Grandfather inherited a castle. We are trying to find that castle. He turned it over to the crown as he couldn't afford the taxes. Was wondering if this castle could be the O'Connor Castle. Thank you so much, Martha Blake

Martha,
only had a quick look for you up to now, and not found a castle listed by that name.
Will have another look soon + the www. Someone else may beat me to it before then. One thing we always ask when a name doesn't appear in general listings .. is that the correct spelling ?

Martha,
your spelling is correct, the site lies in the county of Tipperary.
And did in fact belong to the O'Conner Clan.
Up to now I have found very little information about it.
The O'Conner's have many branches, and are concerned with many castles. And many more which they burnt !
Ballintuber ... Roscommon
Ballymotte ... Sligo
Castle Conner ... Sligo
Carrigafoyle ... Kerry
etc.

Killilea:
all I can give you up to now is that it lies near Lough (Lake) Derg. Somewhere between the castles of Nenagh & Terryglass.
Most likely off the N65, near Borrisokane. It is a double tower-house;
ie two oblong blocks set against each other, with a joining mural stair.

All times are PT (US)
