The name simply derives from the occupation of driving cattle, horses sheep etc. As with any occupational surname, it is not linked to a specific area as the clan names are. However you are looking for the place of origin for a specific person, and relatively recently. I'd suggest that you use Scots Origins, although it can be an expensive business if you have few deatils on the person you seek. Driver is not that common a surnamecompared to some, so that should help you.
