Hi, I am looking for a castle in England. It belonged to in part to my grandfather, Thomas Hodges, him, his sister and a cousin signed it over because they were getting on up in age and unable to go to England! I am interested in finding out which one and what it looks like. I am 45 years old and I recently got my mother interested in computers and she has been studying geneology and this would be a nice surprise to send her a photo. Can you help me to find out about this particular castle. Also, just for information for you my grandmothers ancestor was Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman doctor. |

Phew ! Not a lot to go on there Debbie. More so if it is an early Victorian Castle. Which doesn't really come under our search guidelines. But, being a curious lot, we'll give it a bash. Don't hold yer breath though. |

A quick look at the world-wide-wobble shows the Hodges spread pretty wide in the U.K. Although there is a good showing in Monmouthshire, and in Kent. With a smattering in Yorkshire. All areas where castles are situated. |

Hi Peter, I understand from mother this morning that there was a Bartholimu, don't think I am spelling that correctly, Hodges in the blood line and there were Hodges married to Prossers. Somewhere on here I saw a castle belonging to the Bartholimu Hodges. Maybe this will help some. I also know that they came into the USA at a Virginia port called isle of wright if that is spelled right. ebbie L. Fordham |

Hi Debbie, nothing new at the moment, still a very wide field. Prosser & Hodges point to a Welsh connection. Prosser being (mainly) a corruption of Roger. We don't use 'g' in Wales. So Roger was turned into Rosser. Prosser being a form of that. The name could be Bartholomew, which is a more common spelling. And more unusual than the other two. My data base does have Hodges coming into Virginia and associated areas. Quite a few in fact. It could be that they came from the English 'Isle of Wight' to Virginia. As many ships did leave southern England for the New World. Do you have birth/death dates for your grandfather. My apologies if he is still alive. |

Dear Peter, Thanks so much for your continuation in my search! My grandfather was Thomas Augustus Hodges and his birth is December28,1887. His death was on August 29, 1972,in Laurens County, Dublin Georgia! Grandaddy's grandparents were Thomas A Prosser and Sarah Augusta Ann Hall! For some reason, not understood or known by us the family did not want tham to marry! There is also a Luella(Ella) Thomas Prosser Hodges in blood line and they did come into the isle of wight!I know there are also alot of Roberts and Georges in the background! With sincere thanks, Debbie | |
