I am a collector of postcards of English, Welsh and Scottish castles. Are there any other members who have a similar interest ? |

Dear AJR I have collected cards for many years, although I have never gone mad with the hobby. Refusing to pay silly prices for them. But I'm afraid times are catching up, and prices are rising. I find it difficult finding good cards now, other than Conway, Cardiff, Windsor etc. I do sell a few through my magazine (to help pay for its production), though I don't like to do so as I may never replace them. Being naughty I don't really list them, other than the English & Welsh. Although over Xmas I made myself sit down and list my Italian cards. And were I thought I had 60\70, was amazed to find 150 + : Just shows you ! |

Peter, Graham Morgan (Rangjung) sells postcards on an approval system. I e-mailed him, and am now awaiting my first batch. If you are interested, I suggest you contact him (see message "Postcards"). Maybe he will be able to add to your collection. (I recently purchased a collection of about 400 vintage postcards to add to the 600 I already had - then had to buy four more albums to house them. Those plus modern postcards and photographs are now housed in 19 albums (over 2000 pictures !!). Fortunately, I do have them indexed, otherwise I could never find anything. I do have a few non-UK castle postcards (not indexed), but no Italian castles I'm afraid. If I find any, I'll let you know. |

Have collected castle postcards for many years (along with guidebooks etc.) - currently have about 3000 - all British Isles. Most are modern - well from the last 30 years - but have a fare selection of older cards - although unwilling to pay much unless they're exceptional. My view of exceptional tends to be related to the picture - especially tower house before restored or destroyed - rather than the actual card.

Peter You'll never guess what I turned up in an old album - a postcard of an Italian castle. It's a picture of "La Fortezza di Verrucole". No doubt you have that one. If not, I would be happy to send it to you. It just goes to show I'm not quite as organised as I thought!!Andy I've got some old guidebooks which I'm willing to part with (my wife will jump for joy if I do). They are : - Alnwick : A Short History & Guide - by Frank Graham, 1973. Bamburgh Castle - by Dr. Brian Hope-Taylor FSA., 1994. Stirling Castle - by J.S. Richardson HRSA. LLD. FSA. & Margaret E.B.Boot MA. FSA.Scot., 1978. Let me know if you're interested. [This message has been edited by AJR (edited 01-10-2001).] |

Dear AJR Thanks for the reply - the Alnwick guide sounds interesting or at least different from the current glossy guidebook. Visited Alnwick 2 years ago for the first time - found it difficult when the Shell Keep is signposted as the Castle (really a stately home) and little regard is made for the two wards. Anything in particular you are looking for in return - name a few castles and I'll see what I've got. |
