Hi. A few people have mentioned Burg Eltz in forums and I just wanted to share my adventure with this castle. I was backpacking by myself along the Rhein and Mainz rivers and wanted to see this castle. After riding the Bummelzug (slow train) in order to get the best view of the castles on the way I disembarked and made my way along dirt roads. Halfway there I reached the forest to be greeted with a sign "Weg gesperrt" (path blocked) because of tree felling. I wasn't going to be deterred so decided to dodge trees and tree fellers (or is that fellas hah). This made the adventure even more interesting. When I finally viewed the castle I was awestruck. It was winter (therefore the castle wasn't open but I knew this before visiting) and the tendrils of mist were floating in front of the castle so it was like a dream. I really recommend this castle to adventurers travelling the Mainz...trees and all!
