I would like to learn how medieval buildings were constructed in hopes to build them myself. My question is are there any schools in the United States that teach how timber framed, thatch and daub structures were built? Could you point me in a direction on where I can find institutions that teach such courses in the US? I have checked all schools around me and can only find such courses taught in the UK. If it comes to that I will travel. Anyone know of schools that teach such classes hands on and not just lectures? I may want a degree in this field if not just for personal pleasure.

This group seems to get around a bit. Hands on teaching based on historic techniques, but not keeping only to medieval. I think they only do timberframing, not wattle and daub etc. http://www.tfguild.org/ http://www.tfguild.org/projects/fling0.html Lots of dead links, but they're out there. Erik |
