i saw a show on tlc about castles and this one was supposedly the worlds largest castle. it actually had a town that fit inside it and double walls and was sitting right on the edge of a lake or river.....
please if anyone knows anything that might be helpful please email me at ettensean@hotmail.com i would like some pics or a website to go to as well

The only walled town with double walls and a castle I can think of is Carcassonne in Southern France. http://www.carcassonne.org/ http://perso.wanadoo.fr/bbcp/english/

It doesn't, however, sit right next to the river, which is a few hundred meters away in the valley below.
The castle itself is not all that large as the town and it's defences are not actually part of the castle.

You're welcome.
Are you interested in castles or walled towns, or just the most spectacular of both?

Avila, in Spain, also has spectacular, complete walls, but no castle. http://members.fortunecity.es/klp2/avila/avila.html http://www.sacredsites.com/final40/spav.html http://www.madridman.com/spainfotos.html http://www.castillayleon.com/castillos/imuralla2.html

Istandbul is famous for having the largest and most imnpressive walls, which are still quite complete in some places. http://www.fortunecity.com/underworld/straif/69/engtheodosianw.htm http://units.ox.ac.uk/departments/classics/pictures/turkey/walls.html http://www.touringturkey.com/Pictures/Gallery/image29.html http://www.its.caltech.edu/~tsa/Treasures/Grvr/22.html

This page is useful if you are interested in town walls; http://www.walledtowns.com/

There are plenty of castles around with impressive walls, let us know if you want some names.

Erik
