Hidoes any know where I can find nice sites about castles, fortresses, palaces and manors in Russia. where I can find a sort of introduction to the greatest and most specials castles of Russia. By the way: I don't mean sites about the imperial palace of the czars in Sankt Petersburg. On the moment I am curious for everything with castles in Russia, which is not directed related to the imperial family, because the only things I find are related with the (schleswig-holstein-gottorf-)Romanovs. |

Seems almost impossible to get anything. I just found this page in german about the old castle of Kaliningrad (Königsberg), founded in the 13th century and destroyed in the 20th: http://www.calguard.ca.gov/ia/konigsberg/Kaliningrad%20-%20ko-schloss%20deu.htm

concerning the russian country houses i have found a nice site and a book.the site (with info on 3 houses) is: http://www.a-force.org/ it is the site of the American Friends of the Russian country estate. it is great to see that there are such organisations to help the russian cultural heritage to survive. the book is "LIFE ON THE RUSSIAN COUNTRY ESTATE A Social and Cultural History" of Priscilla Roosevelt (chairman of a-fore) ( http://www.yale.edu/yup/books/055951.htm ). I bought it yesterday and is great book for some one who want to know more about the russian country house. the book is comparable with the books 'life in the english country house'( http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0300058705/qid=1040992145/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1_1/026-7753429-6340426 )and 'life in the french country house' ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1841881252/ref=pd_bxgy_text_2_cp/026-7753429-6340426 ) of Mark Girouard. Now i hope that i will find such a great book on russian castles one day in the near future |
