The most famous is the "blue boy" who as midnight rang out would cry and moan in agony or maybe fear. The noises could be traced to a spot near a passage cut through a ten foot wall. When the bloodcurdling wails die away a soft halo of light appears around an old four poster bed. Anyone sleeping there, even today, can see the figure of a young boy dressed in blue, and surrounded by light. Behind the wall the bones of a young boy and fragments of blue clothing were discovered. Another ghost, Lady Mary Berkeley, searches for her husband, who ran off with her sister. Lady Mary, desolate and broken hearted lived in the castle by herself with only her baby girl as a companion. The rustle of her dress can be heard as she passes you by in the turret stairs. But there are more! A visit to Chillingham Castle is certainly worth a visit and better a stay. If you dare. deborahknowles Senior Member	posted 09-24-2004 02:10 PM I have stayed there twice. Before I went I said I didn't believe in ghosts. I've never said it again. I even think I saw the blue boy but he is definately at peace now. ------------------

deborahknowles Senior Member	posted 10-15-2004 04:06 PM The first time was May 1995 and the second was May/June 1997. I'm glad I went when I did. Me, my husband and toddler were the only ones in the entire castle at night! (Apart from the ghosts, of course.) ------------------
Northumbria Member	posted 11-01-2004 07:51 AM I've been there many times, though I have never stayed the night. My mum did though. She was the only on to experience anything when they went on the small tour. Maybe it's because we're Scottish or something, because more experiences have happened to scots there. She got this enormous bruise around her neck and up to her ear. She was wearing this beautiful period dress(red and black). There was one room that she couldn't go into. She just wouldn't go through the doorway, even if 5 of her friends pushed her, and she isn't very strong at all. When this happened, she said to the guide "Not in there. I can't go in there. I need to go up they stairs." to this, the guide replied, "How did you know about the stairs?" This was the first time that she went, and the stairs ARE NOT MARKED on the map, and are behind a wall (well, a curtain now)! It's safe to say that she might not ever go back to Chillingham again, but that won't stop me!
