How do you become a moderator? |

Ask mr. the scribe if you can be one. I believe there's a topic about it in the "comments & suggestions" forum. |

Normaly, it works like this: You are a long-time senior-member of CQ, you've read a lot of books on castles or the middle ages, you've shown your knowledge through a lot of good posts in the forums, you've visited a lot of castles and are able to help people with their specific questions. Then, if a new moderator is needed an all administrators and moderators have agreed on your nomination, you'll get an official invitation from Ted Monk («the Scribe») to become one. It's not easy, I'm afraid. But if you think you're able to moderate, you can always send an e-mail directly to Ted. Merlin |

Very nice Fox, i like it!. Hate to dissapoint on the keep thing but its more of a buisness forum, 'what happened to the light bulbs?', "Sorry guys i've been an *** latly", or 'going on holidays soon, can some one cover?' Things like that. |

All work and no play ? Doesn't sound like The Keep I access. Maybe I'm being forwarded to a CQ in another dimension !!Ah ! But D's right, it's business as usual, with a little relaxation and time to let off steam - Fzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I always thought letting off steam was a part of buisness. Like getting advice from our resident Psyc. professional when a bad case of light bulb eyetis {SP??} strikes. And about that other Keep, i didn't know any one else got sent there, Do you go in the green door or like me into the bright light?

Yes your signature is very appropriate Fox, I like it very much. As for the Keep, you're not missing too much, Duncan summed it up quite nicely. As for the 'power' of Moderators, we can edit mails, move mails, delete mails, all stuff we don't use very often, and try not to. We can also post announcements, like the one at the top of my forum, though I suspect it's not read very often. this is one of the things we talk about in there now and again, is how best to use these facilities for everyones benefit.------------------ 'Demeure par la verite' Visit; Gordon's Scottish Castles Resource Page |

duncanThere doesn't seem to be any bright lights in the Keep I go into - maybe a few bright sparks, but that's all. As for the door - I'm colour blind, so don't know whether it's green, red or brown. Fox Sorry to have delayed in noting your signature. I tried to respond last night, but had trouble accessing CQ. When I finally got in, it wouldn't let me reply to any post - frustrating. Great composition - you have a right to be proud. |

I suspect it may be Californias power black outs causing much of the problem. I was told by Castle Quest this morning their was no such forum as BYOC. We can email The Scrib and see what he says. |

I couldn't get in at all yesterday evening. And gordon, I did read your announcement, i love redaing every announcement and things like that, which often gives me somekind of an advantage someway, somehow, with something I know I don't miss alot, but is is so nice to have a place where only you & your mates can come to And what does BYOC stand for? ------------------ -Mattun- The world can be as you want, when you are as the world wants you. |

BYOC - to me that means "bring your own cakes". However, here in CQ it stands for "Building Your Own Castle" forum.Any other ideas ? |

Finding that it didn't exist came to a bit of a shock early this morning before i was awake. I think i may have kidded around a little too much about the other keeps yesterday.

Question: you post something, you leave, you come again later, you see bright yellow light, you chack them out, and the only new post is your own...That is rather frustrating, can't that be changed? I suppose not but... ------------------ -Mattun- The world can be as you want, when you are as the world wants you. |

Help yourself to as many as you like - they're only "virtual" cakes, so you can't get fat or make yourself ill.(or did you mean two breaks ?) [This message has been edited by AJR (edited 05-24-2001).] |

Yes, more is better for this cure. Tea and shortbread can be substituted with the same results i've found from experence.Cakes or breaks, either or all will work and the more you can have of the breaks the better.

Well - to paraphrase this thread takes time. Are you ready for this ??Here goes !!! The thread was started in order to ascertain how one becomes a moderator. Merlin answered your question - and it was very well put too. Next came the question as to what moderators can do. After lengthy and uninformed posts by a few, including myself, Gordon and duncan between them provided a basic idea of a moderator's duties and abilities here at CQ. After that, Fox wanted to know what BYOC meant - resulting in a number of possibilities, including the correct one - "Building Your Own Castle", which is the title of one of the forums. With regards to "virtual" cakes - that was my input, which seems to have allowed the discussion to degenerate slightly. Beyond that, there has not been anything else of importance on this thread. So, unless you have any further questions on how the moderators operate and what they do, may I suggest that we adjourn for rest and recuperation, consider the thread closed, and answer any other questions you may have on separate subject in a new thread ?
