About thirty years ago I came across a book on castle life that had a recipe for "castle spices". The spices were simmered over the fire and used as an air deodorant against must and mildew in damp castles.
I tried it once and it was very good. I no longer have the recipe or know the name of the book. If anyone can help me with the recipe I would be grateful
