Topic: Dress up Like you Would Have Then!

Where I live (Northumberland) there is a wonderful Castle (hang on, there are more castles here than anywhere else in England) called Aydon Castle. There, you can do so many things! Ok, so it takes an age to get there depending on what route you decide to go by. It is two miles away from the historic town of Corbridge, and whenever I go up to Scotland, thats the way we go, right across Hadriends Wall, from the Wallsend side until we reach the mountains for the Lake District.
Aydon is fantastic for kids, for they can dress up in hand made replica's of the clothes that used to be worn in various times during history. Sometimes, you can even have an apple from the second-courtyard/orchard! It is so fun! I went there in my eigth year at school when we went on a castles tour (which was free and means that I have been to many more castles than I would have been!) and then a day where we all made our own castles out of clay. I still have mine. I loved it so much! I use the turrets as candle holders now!

It is a fantastic place to visit.
And like you say, full of castles & towers.
Almost as good as Wales in some ways .. cough!

I'm coming to Northumberland next year (5th visit), staying in Embleton so can get a good view of Dunstanburgh (my favourite - writing a book featuring this one). Have also stayed at Chillingham twice. Will give this one a go -sounds good.Deborah of Surrey ------------------
