(Rating: 6.67 Votes: 9) Rate It! - Report bad link In the 13th century, Florens V, Count of Holland, did build five fortresses in the northern region of (the present) Noord-Holland in the Netherlands. This to consolidate his conquest on the Westfrisians. Just one castle survived the ca. 700 years of history: the castle of Medemblik (Radboud Castle). The rest of them is completely vanished or nothing more then just a ruin is left. The site is interactive and describes (in Dutch) several historical and other interesting facts.

its doors. A copy of 12th century castle " Jemppe" in Belgium is constructed now in Holland, Almere ( near Amsterdam )

Slot Zuylen (Rating: 9.00 Votes: 8) Rate It! - Report bad link Slot Zuylen was built around 1520 on medieval remains. In 1752 the Slot was rebuilt into a stately country home on the Vecht. The Zuylen collection offers an overview of three centuries of residence by the Van Tuyll van Serooskerken family: porcelain, glasswork, paintings, furniture and wall tapestries. A number of rooms have been furnished as they were in the time when the well-known writer Belle van Zuylen was living in the Slot.
