Oops, forgot to mention the good value, this one is £9.99. [This message has been edited by Gordon (edited 08-08-2001).] ------------------ ------------------Gordon Francis Frith was an enthusiastic Victorian photographer who travelled the world photographing scenes and antiquities.
His passion though lay in Scotland and Wales.
Having just purchased one book from what I beleive to be a collection of 150 now available, I'd recommend tham to anyone with an interest either in a specific area, castles , or old postacards.
Sounds like a good one for Andrew.
There is a website describing what's avialable at http://www.francisfrith.co.uk/fcp/
So all that remains is to extol the virtues of the one I got.
Francis Frith's Photographic Memories..Scottish Castles by Clive Hardy.
Frith Book Co. 2001 ISBN 1-85937-323-2
A suberb insight into the life of one man and his obsession, features a large collection of Scottish Castle photos and postacards from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. Each copy contains a voucher to send off for a free print. The Scots castle volume also includes Scots baronial mansions and other 'castles', but does explain that they are not true castles. Also covers the Isle of Man, and a few from south of the Border.A bit of everything here, from the history of the man, history of postcards, history of the castles, but above all those pictures.

'Demeure par la verite'
Visit; Gordon's Scottish Castles Resource Page A Knight I purchases this and its sister book - English Castles a number of months ago. I was disappointed in two areas - the Scottish volume had a section - South of the Border - covering some castles (and pictures) covered in the English volume and some photos were rather recent - post 1955 on sites with little significant change in the past 40 odd years. I think there is also a Welsh volunme. AJR Yes, there is a Welsh volume - which arrived in the post this morning. Have not had time to peruse it yet, but will comment as soon as possible, unless of course someone beats me to it.
