The castle was built by the nobleman C.H.C.A. van Sypesteyn (1857-1937) and is one of the youngest castles in the Netherlands. The founder of the castle was the last male member of the Van Sypesteyn family. He came from a generation of collectors. Interest for history in general and his family history in particular were of the utmost importance and he regarded it as his duty to review his genealogical tree.
