LadyCasey Alright, Lay it on me!! Give me lots of books that I can buy that are about castles and medieval times, anything, from the castles to the servants, to the clothes and the shoes they walked with, anything!
I find myself more able to learn reading from a book than an internet site, (don't know why) sooo, I want to know all the best books out there.

As to what books !
Everyone connected with this site will have their favourite castles/periods/books etc.
That is why we have a group of moderators. We all have our own little niche.
Others can tell you theirs ... but i like fortifications in general (notice fortifications, not just castles), though I do go for anything to do with Italy.
I am also inerested in herbs, and their use from medieval times to the present day. Mainly because anyone can grow them and use them.
I am also lucky that in the fact that here in North Wales I am surrounded by history (ie: I can go to about 10 castle sites within 30-mins by car.)
Get general books on castles out of your library. Try to get a 'feel' of what period/country/things might interest you.
If you want seperate leaflets on some Welsh castles, let me know and I'll whizz some along.
Books are expensive items now. And specialised castle books even more so. Ipflo has just hinted at that when buying some on his favourite subject. Xmas & birthdays are a great time to drop hints for them
Hey ! We all do it.
I do my own magazine 'Postern', in which people write about castle sites and related subjects. The issue just going out (15) has 10-pages of reviews etc.
Although America does not have castles as we know them in Europe, it does have many interesting fortified sites. Some dating back to Spanish times. I have visted sites in Florida & New England. The fort in Boston harbour is huge. You have them over on the west coast. I'm sure that there is a fort at your City of the Angels.
It's all there for the knowing !
ipflo yes, i totally agree with Peter
start with general books, lent them from the library. buying them can always be done later on, when you more know what you like. And that's also much better for your wallet, because the books are expensive just as peter says. Especially the special ones.
My little niche is especially palaces/ mansions, lost castles/ palaces, late medieval castles (especially when they have become big complexes or beautiful ruins like Corfe castle in England). It doesn't really matter for me, in which country or area they are. I find the lost city palace of Potsdam in Germany or Chillon in Switzerland just as interesting as Himejei Castle in Japan or the citadel of Cairo.
